Creating the Perfect Life
Here is my formula to creating a perfect schedule which will afford you the perfect life. Many people I have worked with are resistant to the idea of setting a schedule, they say it doesn’t allow them the ability to be free and creative and stay in the flow. Amazingly enough across the boards once they do the exercise I am about to recommend and they create the “perfect schedule” they get the things done that need to get done and end up having more time for the things they want so they can have the life they really dreamed of.
Step 1: Make a list of all of the things that need to get done on the days that you work. (You must include time for rest and regeneration, exercise, food, free time, spiritual time, emotional time etc. On that note I would strongly recommend reading the book “The Power of Full Engagement.” This book clarifies the difference between managing your time and managing your energy. We all only have 24 hours per day, but some of us are able to get much more accomplished during our 24 hours. As long as you are only managing your time you will never have the peak performance and life that you want as if you were to also manage your energy!)
Step 2: Make a list of all of the things that need to get done on the days that you don’t work.
Step 3: Go through both of the above lists and write down how much time you need to allot for each item, prioritize things in terms of importance, start to note things that aren’t really that important, note items that you can delegate. Recognize there are $10/hr jobs and $500/hr jobs. Unless the job/task brings you great joy delegate the $10/hr jobs so you can create the time for you to do the $500/hr jobs i.e. adjusting patients, free time that leads to great creativity so you can think of the ideas that bring you the big joy and the big bucks. Think in terms of delegate, automate, delegate and replicate!! (There is quite a bit to this concept. Let me know when you are ready and we can discuss how to implement this process.)
Step 4: Come up with the “perfect schedule” to support your perfect life. (See links below.)
Step 5: Make sure your family and staff are aware of the schedule and that you stick to it. I used to tell my staff, “Unless the building is burning down don’t break in on me” during the times I worked on reports, made calls etc. We lose so much momentum when we are pulled out of our flow. Hit the bull’s-eye, stay focused and get the job done!
If you would like support in discovering your perfect life I would like to suggest that you take a quick look at these links on my website and see if any of them help stimulate thoughts or ideas. During our coaching sessions I will be able to help you tailor-make a schedule/program that will work for you but these forms are good overviews of areas to start to consider and will save us a lot of time.
