Distinctions
Thomas Leonard, the founder of personal coaching and the coaches at Coachville have a service where they send out what they call "daily distinctions." You can get on their e-mail list and receive these daily distinctions by following the directions noted below.
I have taken my favorites and added my personal twist to them in relation to coaching chiropractors to attract the practice of their dreams. (Please note that I add to this list on a regular basis.)
I find it very useful to explore and expand our understanding and awareness. When we look at the difference between two polar opposites, or two different ideas or concepts we begin to explore our belief systems and how we view reality. It is a very powerful way to learn and a very powerful way to teach.
You will notice in our coaching I will often times ask you what you think the difference between one thing and another is, or why would you want this vs. that. As you explore these concepts or ideas, you begin to define what you do and do not want, what does and does not work for you.
Dan Milman, in his book "The warrior athlete," writes about finding your perfect pace as a runner or swimmer by doing a few laps at an uncomfortably slow pace. Then doing a few at an uncomfortably fast pace. He then says when you have experienced both extremes, or polar opposites, you can find your perfect pace.
I believe these daily distinctions can help us explore our beliefs and understandings, and begin to find our own very personalized truths.
This is also a very powerful way to teach our patients. My experience is if we can help our patients come up with the answers on their own, if it feels like they discovered it; then they own it and we do not have to keep trying to sell them or convince them. They actually have come to the answer from above down and inside out and they are forever changed.
